Though Austrian Alps are in general considered to be skiers’ paradise and so many people come here due to fabulous slopes with the best facilities for skiers and snowboarder this is not the only reason why it is such a worth visiting place. Indeed there are plenty of different things that you can do all over the Alps in Austria.
If you don’t ski either snowboard you may still find it very enjoyable visiting Salzburg as well as all the rest Austrian Alpine destinations. We recommend to try langlaufing and cross-country. However, if you prefere more extreeme sports then the Alps are still a wonderful choice. Unquestionably, Austrian Alps are the mecca for all of them who’s in love with mountains and winter sports including ice climbing, or activities like flying fox!
New, less popular sport discipline is splitboarding which is a mix of snowboarding and skiing. You can get to Montafon on ski, then fasten them together and slide down performing the most risky jumps and so on. If you are a splitboarder you certainly know this super-popular Splitboar-Festival called „Climb-the Mountain” held annually in Hochjoch. If you love trying new things then you’ll certainly find it cool in Lammertal-Dachstein you can rent even the most weird equipments. Very popular are now snow-carts and airboards. 3 kilometre long luge track gives the tourists a great possibility for a really fast slide down.
You have not decided yet whether you’re interested or not, then try quads or buggy. You’re gonna love it! Another form of sport you can do in Austrian Alps is snow-kiting. It is just the same as kitesurfing but on snow. You’re just dragged by a huge kite driven by the force of the wind. The most known place for doing this sport is Thalgau. Just in Thalgau The Snowkite World Cup is held every year. Those who like speed ride, go up really high to the top of Thalgauberg Mountain to slide down with 80km/h speed!
Only here, in the one place, only in beautiful Austrian Alps you can do all these extreme sports.
